  • Non-legal OGMAs in the Discovery Islands

    Old-growth management areas (OGMAs) are created through Landscape Unit planning. In the Discovery Islands, only those islands in the Sunshine Coast Natural Resource District have had landscape-level planning completed. The overall target for OGMAs in the Cortes Landscape Unit was 9 percent of the Crown forested land base. That was achieved by locating “non-legal” OGMAs in scattered provincial parks and the East Redonda Island Ecological Reserve, as well as legal OGMAs in non-protected areas of Crown forest.
