  • Radium discovered at Open Bay in 1922

An enthusiastic report (highlighted in yellow) in the Daily Colonist on the discovery of radium at Open Bay, in which the writer suggests locals would soon be digging up minerals worth $3 million an ounce. Note that the writer refers to "Valdes Island" even though Valdes Island had been renamed Quadra Island 19 years earlier. (click on image to enlarge)
