In 1989, forestry company Fletcher Challenge had plans to log an area adjacent to Main Lake. The intervention of the Quadra community prompted the BC government to create a provincial park and the degradation that would otherwise have occurred was avoided.

Forest-based recreation resources on the Discovery Islands

This project is conducting a long-term survey of natural recreation resources on the islands, both those that have been somewhat developed and those that could have high potential value in the future. Clearcut logging degrades these resources, limiting recreational use of island forests.

The map below is the portal to our catalogue of these resources. You can pan around the map by clicking on it and and dragging. Click on any green star to see the projects survey of recreational resources for that area. We welcome your comments and observations about each area. Please use the comment section for a specific area.
