There are a number of individual large Douglas firs and western red cedars along the road into Darkwater Lake, just east of the lake, including the Douglas fir below. In 2019 this tree measured 23.7 feet in circumference at breast height.

The map below is TimberWest’s account of forest by age class on Quadra Island. It doesn’t indicate all of the old forest that has been confirmed by the Discovery Islands Forest Conservation Project, but most of the areas shown in brown are areas of old forest (>250 years).
