Planned logging on the Discovery Islands
This section of the website has been created so that islanders will know which public forests are going to disappear next. This will provide you with an opportunity to create a record of the forest before it is logged and a record afterwards. Why? The before-and-after photography of TJ Watt has famously chronicled the loss of old-growth forests in coastal BC and has brought international attention to the effort to conserve coastal primary forests. This is one of the strategies the project intends to utilize to bring attention to the loss of forests on the Discovery Islands.
The interactive map below shows cutblocks planned by various logging companies over the next 3 or so years. Use the + or - buttons to zoom in and out. You can pan around the map by clicking on it and and dragging. Click on any proposed cutblock (coloured polygon) to view the logging company, size and proposed cutting date. Note: None of the cutblocks planned by woodlot licence tenure holders are indicated on this map.
