  • Forest loss on the Discovery Islands

Click on an island's name below to see our numerical account of forest loss on that island.

    Quadra Island

Most of the area of the Discovery Islands is Crown land, and most of that land is in what the ministry of forestry calls the "timber harvesting land base" (THLB). Quadra and Sonora are in the Campbell River Natural Resources District while the rest are in the Sunshine Coast Natural Resources District.

At the present time, this project is focussing on mapping the extent of logging on Quadra Island. Crown land on Quadra Island has been divided between TFL 47 (TimberWest) and 9 different Woodlot Licence Program tenures.

The map below shows the ministry of forests account of cutblocks (red) approved on the Discovery Islands between 2000 and 2018. Additional logging has occurred in 2019 and 2020. Click on the map below to enlarge.
