  7. Draft (January 2023) Woodlot Plan for Woodlot 2032 2011 Woodlot Plan for Woodlot 2032 Estimate of employment provided by tenure (See this page for how this was estimated) Subsidization (The estimate of this tenure’s subsidization is based on its share of the total provincial subsidy. That share is based on the volume the tenure logged in a given year compared with the total volume logged in BC that year. To see how the total provincial subsidy was estimated, see this page. Discovery Island tenure holders pay a much lower rate of stumpage than the provincial average, but that has not been reflected in the estimates below.) Conservation of biodiversity NOTE: The chart below does not reflect proposed (2023) changes to WL 2032’s mapped old forest reserves, which would be half of what was proposed in its 2011 Woodlot Plan, shown below.

  20. These areas of primary forest are just northwest of the gravel pit on Granite Bay Road. The areas of primary forest are visible in the image above in the centre foreground and the left of centre middle ground. Mount Seymour is in the background, the gravel pit on the left. Logging has recently occurred in the north end of the more northern area. The old forest is likely greater than 250 years of age. A surviving Douglas fir vet is very tall. The views from the east end of Raven Ridge, above the northern area of old forest, have spectacular views, including of Main Lake to the east.
  21. Satellite imagery and a drone flight nearby suggest there is a small (~3hectare) grove of old forest just north and up the slope from the Small Inlet-Waiatt Bay portage trail. The project has not confirmed this grove on the ground. A drone video of Waiatt Bay identified a grove of old forest towards Small Inlet (see green dot)
